Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
